Tutorial: How To Remove Unwanted Apps From Android

Hello! Long time no see! I’ve finally prepared a tutorial for you guys!

After your many questions and comments, I decided to create a tutorial about how to remove unwanted apps from Android devices.

You probably know that feeling when you buy a brand new Android phone or tablet and it’s stuffed with apps you know you will never use. These apps eat up your CPU resources and battery even if you never open them. Why should you let that happen? Let’s put a stop to it!

You Can Remove Unwanted Apps Without Rooting Your Device

You probably thought that you can only get rid of these apps if you root your device (and thus void warranty).

TIP: If you are interested in rooting, you may want to read this article: Does rooting Android cause problems?

Rooting will, of course, let you do whatever you want to do with your device. Fortunately, you don’t need to root your Android phone or tablet to remove the stock apps you don’t need and use.

Disable The Stock Apps You Don't Want To Use

Instead of rooting your phone to remove unwanted apps from your Android device, you can simply disable them. Once you do that, they will become invisible and inactive. What’s most important, they won’t eat up CPU resources or battery of your device any longer. Here’s how you can disable unwanted apps.

On this example I used Sony Xperia Z3 Compact with Android 4.4.4.

Depending on the model of the phone, go to Settings > Apps.

When you are in Apps, choose All to browse all the apps on your Android device. Whenever you see the app you want to disable, click on it. In this example, I want to disable Google+ app  I don’t use.

Once you click on the app, you will have several options available: Force stop, Disable, Clear data, Clear cache. You guessed it! You have to click on Disable. You will see a question “Disable built-in app?” so click OK.

Now Google+ app is disabled and will no longer appear in the app grid or anywhere except on this list of All apps on your device.

In Apps, you can also view the list of all the apps disabled under Disabled.

Be careful not to disable some important system app (i.e. responsible for the camera or text messaging), or you may encounter serious problems with Android OS on your device.

Here you can see a short movie of how I disable one of these apps on my phone.

Remove All The Apps You Once Installed With Once Click

Obviously, the stock apps you don’t use can be a great problem and pain in the ... but so can other apps you had previously installed and forgot about. Yes, you forgot about these apps or games, but they still eat up your device’s resources and slow it down.

You can manually uninstall one app after another by going to Settings > Apps and choosing Uninstall. Fortunately, there is a much more simple way at hand. All you need to do is download and install Easy Uninstaller app. The app will let you multiple select the apps you want to remove from your Android device and uninstall them in a few clicks.

Remember that Easy Uninstaller won’t uninstall the stock apps which you can only disable or remove once you root your device.

Congratulations! You’ve successfully removed unwanted apps from your Android device!
