In this article, we review Lookout Security and Antivirus, one of the best apps designed to secure our Android devices.

Every day every Android phone faces many different risks, such as, viruses, malware, spyware or simply theft.

There are hundreds of apps designed to protect your phone but practically none of them is as powerful and effective as Lookout Android app.

Let's see what it is all about!

Lookout Android App!

What Is Lookout Android App for?

With its 35 million downloads, Lookout became really popular.  The app is designed to fully protect your device from all kinds of bad stuff  that can happen to it (loss, theft,  malware, viruses or spyware). It offers a great range of security features discussed below.

Lookout Security & Antivirus is available in the free and Premium version (for $2.99/month). Before you decide if you want to buy it, you can test the Premium version for two weeks. If you decide not to buy it, you can switch back to the free version.

Main Features

The range of most useful features the app offers is really impressive. There are three kinds of features.

Security Features

These include full protection against viruses, malware and spyware available in the free version and additional features, such as, Safe Browsing, Privacy Advisor and Mobile Threat Network available in the Premium version.   So how will  the app protect your device thanks to these features?

  • The app will protect your device against any malicious software which can slow down your phone or make unauthorized charges.
  • It  will detect and remove viruses and spyware.
  • It will scan your device (daily, weekly or upon request).
  • It will block dangerous URLS.

Missing Device Features

The app also offers many most useful features in case you lose your phone or have it stolen. These are features, such as, Locate and Scream, Remote Wipe, Remote Lock. What do they do exactly?

  • You can find your phone on a Google Map using the Lookout.com website. All you have to do is log in to your account.
  • You can make your phone scream (a loud siren alarm) to find it even if it's set to mute.
  • You can see the last location of your phone even if it's battery is dead.
  • Your phone can take a photo (and send it to email) of anyone who tries to unlock your device.
  • You can remotely lock your phone and add a custom message that will be displayed on it.
  • You can remotely wipe all the data from your phone.

Backup Features

Apart from offering a wide range of security features, the app also offers backup & restore features. In the free version, you can only back up and restore contacts to your device. However, in the Premium version the range of backup features is a bit greater:

  • You can back up your contacts and restore them to your device or any other device.
  • You can back up your pictures and call history and restore it to any device.
  • You can back up and transfer pictures, contacts and call history to a new device.
Lookout Android App also allows you to secure your data.

Overall Performance

The app is very effective and  keeps all of its promises. I tested every feature of the app and it works. I also logged in to Lookout.com and tested remote features. They all worked flawlessly. Below you can see a short summary of pros and cons:

  • highly effective
  • no problems and no bugs whatsoever
  • lightweight and doesn't seem to overload my device
  • cutting edge solutions (i.e. taking a photo of the person trying to unlock the phone)

  • Price ($2,99 a month for a mobile app seems too much).
  • You practically provide Lookout with full access to your device (in the Premium version).
  • Remote features may not always come in useful. What if someone really malicious logs into your Lookout account (all they need is a password and e-mail) and deliberately wipes all the data on your phone?

If you use your device a lot (browse the Internet, download new apps or risk losing it or having it stolen), Lookout will definitely be a great choice. You can forget about everything else and let Lookout work behind the scenes. However, if you are a more cautious and money-saving user, you may only use the free version which offers just basic security features.
