How To Hide Photos On An Android Phone In Two Easy Ways

Need a little bit more privacy? No problem. In this tutorial I will show you how to hide pics on an Android phone so that no one but you can see them.

Do you have some photos which you don't want anyone to see?

What if you only want to hide certain photos on your Android device?

If you answered YES to any of these photos, then you certainly need to read this tutorial.

I will give you the essential tips on how to hide photos from Android gallery, how to hide only certain photos and how to do it with and without an external app. Let's begin.

How To Hide Photos On An Android Phone: Use An External App

Probably the easiest and the quickest way to hide photos from Android gallery is to use one of external apps designed especially for that.

There are really lots of such apps and I can recommend you the following:

If you are more into Amazon and want apps from the Amazon Appstore for Android, then you can use the following alternatives:

Below you can see the screenshots from Gallery Vault - Hide Pictures. This app has really a lot of functions and features. To name just a few:

  • It lets you hide both photos and videos.
  • You can hide whole photo albums.
  • You can also hide videos, audios and other files.
  • You can protect the app with PIN code and hide it from the app grid.
  • In the premium version there are extra settings like unlock with fingerprint, break-in alerts or fake PIN.

Once you open the app you will be asked to create the PIN code you will use for unlocking the app and accessing the hidden photos or videos.

To hide photos on your Android phone, you  simply have to open the app, tap on the plus button and select the photos/videos to be hidden. Once you do that they will indeed disappear from Android gallery.

Using the app to hide photos and videos on Android is the easiest and quickest way. I strongly recommend it to you. However, if you don't want to use an app, you can take a look at the method below.

Here is the quick movie where I am showing you how to hide photos and videos on your Android device with the use of Gallery Vault:

How To Hide Photos On Android Without App (Android 5.0 and higher)

You don't necessarily need an external app to hide certain photos from Android gallery. You may as well use a built-in Android feature.

Here is what you need to do:

  • Go to Settings > Privacy and safety. Click on Private mode
  • Enable the private mode by using the toggle button. You will have to define the pattern for unlocking your private content. You can use different access types like PIN, password or Fingerprints (if your phone has a fingerprint reader).
  • Once you have enabled the private mode, go to your Android gallery. Select the photos you want to hide, click on MORE and choose Move to private.

When you are done selecting the photos to hide turn the private mode off so that all the selected pics disappear.

When the private mode is ON, all of the pictures and videos (including those hidden) will be visible.

How To Hide Pics On An Android Phone (Using Cloud)

This is the method I have come up with to be able to hide only certain photos on my Android phone and to make the default gallery app have only the "official" photos.

I didn't want to install an external app at that time and I was looking for the quickest and the easiest way. Here is what you need to do:

  • Make sure you have Google Photos installed and working. Of course, you need to set it up to back up your photos to your Google account. This will be your storage for all the photos (including those you want to hide)
  • Once all the photos have been backed up to Google Photos, you can remove the private photos from the default gallery app (and from your phone storage in fact). You can easily delete them because you have a safe copy of them in the Google cloud.

This way you will have two galleries on your phone. One with all the photos (Google Photos) and it will be locked and the other one (the default Android gallery) with only those photos you don't need to hide.
