In this article, you will discover a few of the best offline navigation applications for Android.
This is the first article I am writing for our new section Offline Apps for Android. I started from offline navigation apps because of a big number of your questions and suggestions, my visitors.
This is also the first article for which I use my brand new phone, that is, Samsung GALAXY S4! From now on this will be my main device for running tests of Android apps and games. BTW, I love it! :) But enough about that because I could go and go like forever...
There are lots of navigation apps for Android but most of them require Internet connection when they are being used. Many people were surprised when they saw their phone bills after using some navigation app just for a new minutes.
However, if you don't have Data plan on your mobile, you can use a few offline Android navigation apps which rely only on GPS signal and maps previously downloaded and installed.
I have tested about 10 different offline gps navigation apps and these four seem to be the winners. Ready to discover them? Fantastic!
Navfree: Free GPS Navigation
This is one of the most popular free offline navigation apps for Android. Navfree offers you instructions (both spoken and on-screen), turn-by-turn directions and offline maps.
All you have to do is download the map of the city or country you are interested in. Navfree uses open-source maps from OpenStreenMap. This app is very pleasing to the eye and easy to use. However, you may encounter some problems when you are away from major areas and cannot download further maps.
GPS Navigation & Maps + offline
This is also a very nice gps navigation app for Android which can also work offline (you choose to work online or offline). The app was extremely successful for iPhone and iPad and is now available for Android users too.
The app in fact contains two apps: turn-by-turn navigation and Worldwide Travel Map. You can download the map of one country for offline use but you have to pay for more. GPS Navigation & Maps costs only about 1 dollar.
Sygic: GPS Navigation & Maps
This one is, in my opinion, one of the top offline navigation apps for Android. It's a clear winner in terms of graphics and interface. Sygic really stands out. It's smooth and colorful.
You can use the trial for 7 days to make sure if you want to pay for the full version. Its main features include TomTom maps, Spoken Street Names, Three Alternative Routes, Waypoints, Dynamic Lane Guidance, Junction View, Speed Limit Display and 3D Cities and landscape. It's certainly worth its price.
CoPilot GPS - Plan & explore!
This is another winner among offline navigation maps for
Android. This is also a very powerful tool for offline mapping and route
planning. CoPilot's main features include tons of POIs built in, Alternative
Routes, Walking Mode, Premium quality 2D street maps you can save to your
Android device and use offline.
You can use full-voice guided 3D navigation and
Active Traffic for 14 days and after that you can still use free and unlimited
access to offline maps, route planning, POIs and turn-by-turn navigation.
