How To Uninstall Apps From Android Wear

A quick tutorial where you will learn how to install apps on Android Wear watches.

In the last tutorial from the Android Wear series I showed you how to install new apps to your watch.

Even though installing new cool Android apps on your watch seems rather simple and obvious, uninstalling them certainly is not.

It took me a few moments to figure out how to uninstall apps from my Android Wear watch even though I am an Android geek.

That’s why in this post I will show you step by step how you can get rid of all the unwanted apps from your watch.

Are you ready to start? Great!

Prepare Your Android Wear Watch And Your Phone

Before we go any further, I need you to prepare your devices so that we can go smoothly with this tutorial. Here is what you need:

  • Your Android Wear watch.
  • Your Android phone connected to your watch (you need to pair the two devices over Bluetooth at first).
  • The Internet connection in your phone (either over Wi-Fi or mobile data).
  • Android Wear app installed on your phone. This is one of the essential Android apps you need to have to be able to pair your phone with your watch.

Once you prepare your devices, we can go on and uninstall apps from your watch.

Analyze Storage Of Your Android Wear Watch

The first thing you might want to do is analyze the storage of your Android Wear watch to see what apps are installed, how much space they occupy and to decide which ones you want to get rid of.

Here is what you need to do:

  • Open the Android Wear app on your phone. Remember that your smartwatch must be connected to your phone. If it’s connected, the app will say Connected just below the name of your watch.

  • Tap on the settings icon and then on the name of your watch.

  • Click on watch storage. You will now see what apps are installed on your watch (or what apps show notifications on your watch).

Unfortunately, the Android Wear app doesn’t let you uninstall or manage these apps in any way.

All you can do is analyze them and analyze battery usage of your watch (by clicking Watch battery just above Watch storage).

How to Uninstall Apps from Android Wear

Fortunately there are at least two good apps that will let you uninstall apps from your Android Wear device without much hassle.

Both of these apps are available in Google Play.

Wear App Manager (Paid)

This is a paid app but it’s certainly worth its price (a little more than one dollar). Once you install and open the Wear App Manager, you will get access to tons of interesting features.

  • Wear App Manager will let you view the apps installed on your Android Wear (either in the form of a list or grid) and the amount of space available on your Android Wear device.
  • Next to each app, you will see the icon indicating whether the app is present only on your watch, your phone or both devices.

  • To manage each app and see much more detail, just click on the chosen app.
  • You will get access to a lot of settings and features like launching the app on a wearable, launching on phone, the amount of storage it occupies on a wearable, details about the app version installed on your devices and app permissions.

  • To uninstall the app, click on the three dots under field Actions and choose Uninstall. In some cases you will see the notification saying that the app will be removed both from your phone and your watch.

  • In a few seconds you will see the notification on your smartwatch that the app has been uninstalled (even though Wear App Manager might still show it’s installed).

That’s it. You have successfully uninstalled an app from your Android Wear smartwatch.

Wear App Manager & Tracker (Free)

There is also a free app Wear App Manager & Tracker which can help you manage and uninstall apps from your Android Wear.

This app, however, offers you fewer features and it displays only the apps that are installed both on your phone and your watch

Once you uninstall the app, it will be removed from both devices.
